Manual vs timer-based vs automatic

Manual means Friday-afternoon reconstruction from memory — late, approximate, and resented. Timer-based is better but still manual at every step: start the timer, remember to switch projects, write up what the block was. Automatic removes the person from the loop without removing their control: somebody picks a project once (or presses Start, or the global shortcut), the tracker records time and on-screen work, and the line writes itself as it happens. The lifecycle: desktop work to Odoo timesheet line

1. Tracked session. The desktop app records time and what was on screen; events queue locally and sync to your Odoo — nothing goes anywhere else. Read the tracker chapter.
2. Work episodes. Raw events become episodes on your server, scored for activity and focus against the person's own role. Read the activity chapter.
3. Odoo analytic and timesheet lines. Episodes land on the selected project and task with an AI-written description of what the stretch actually was — Odoo's own records, priced against your rates. See project budgets.
4. Descriptions and reports. Focus reports, team briefings and profitability run off the same record — and every line can produce the work behind it if a client ever asks. Read the reports chapter.

Corrections, control and honesty

Automation that cannot be corrected is a liability. Lines are ordinary Odoo records: managers fix them like any timesheet, and manual edits leave an audit trail in the reports rather than silently rewriting history. Role-aware scoring means LinkedIn all afternoon is the job being done in marketing and a question worth asking in engineering — a tracker that cannot tell those apart produces numbers nobody should act on.
